Internal medicine residents, dentistry resident join UMMC faculty

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.Sarah Elizabeth Kerut, M.D.
Dr. Sarah Elizabeth Kerut, recently an internal medicine resident at UMMC, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an instructor in medicine.
After receiving her B.S. in biomedical engineering summa cum laude from Mississippi State University in 2011, Kerut earned her M.D. in 2015 at UMMC, where she had an internal medicine internship from 2015-16 and an internal medicine residency from 2016-18. She serves as chief resident for internal medicine.
An active member of the American College of Physicians and the Mississippi State Medical Association, she is active on several committees at UMMC, including the Residency Review Subcommittee. Kerut is a volunteer at the Jackson Free Clinic and a member of First Presbyterian Church. She has presented multiple abstracts as poster presentations at the American College of Physician’s Mississippi chapter meeting and at the American Geriatrics Society’s national research meeting.
Alexa Lampkin, D.M.D.
Dr. Alexa Lampkin, recently an advanced education general dentistry resident at UMMC, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of dentistry in the Department of Care Planning and Restorative Sciences.
After receiving her B.A. in biological sciences cum laude from the University of Mississippi in 2013, Lampkin earned her D.M.D. in 2017 at UMMC, where she then had advanced education in general dentistry.
President of the Student National Dental Association, Student Chapter, and Student National Dental Association, National Executive Board, Representative to the National Dental Association House of Delegates while a dental student, Lampkin volunteers for a host of dental services provided by the UMMC School of Dentistry, including Give Kids a Smile Day and the SNDA Impressions Program.
Jessie Lavender, M.D.
Dr. Jessie Lavender, recently chief resident in internal medicine at UMMC, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of medicine.
After receiving her B.S. in chemistry magna cum laude from Mississippi College in 2007, Lavender earned her M.D. at UMMC in 2012. She had family medicine residency training from 2012-13 in Tuscaloosa before returning to UMMC for an internal medicine residency from 2013-16. Chief resident in internal medicine from 2016-17, she has served as correct care locums at the Jackson VA Emergency Department. She has been on staff at Baptist Leake since 2017.
An active member of the American College of Physicians, she serves on the American College of Physicians Board of Governors Council and is a volunteer at the Compassion Care Clinic.
